Umeå University

I am currently working on a PhD-project entitled "Change and dynamics in cereal cultivation in southern Scandinavia during the Iron Age". The project is performed primarily at the Environmental Archaeology Laboratory at Umeå University in Sweden in close cooperation with Horsens Museum, Moesgaard Museum and Velje Museum, all located in east central Jutland, Denmark.

The primary aim is to identify events and processes of change in cereal cultivation during the Iron Age in southern Sweden and Denmark and attempt to elucidate the possible causes for that change. In order to achieve the aims the project relies both on a review of previously published studies and on analysis of newly excavated material. The latter is analysed using a combination of archaeobotany and geochemical/geophysical methods (primarily phosphate analysis and magnetic susceptibility analysis) applied according to a complementary multiproxy strategy.

During the spring of 2012 I am staying at the Paleoethnobotany Laboratory at UC Berkeley in order to learn and interact with my colleagues.
